Piling Division

The piling division provides land-based pile services for foundation, load-bearing and earth-retention systems. This division installs a wide range of piling types and sizes, including drilled and driven bearing piles and driven sheet piles. Foundation or bearing pilings include timber, precast and prestressed concrete block and pipe, steel pipe, H-shaped steel and augercast concrete piles. These piles are up to 260 feet in length, 84 inches in diameter or 36 inches square in solid or hollow ingle or multiple pieces. These piles are used when a deep foundation is required due to soil properties or load and structural design requirements. Pile driving is accomplished by impact or vibration. Drilling with an auger to a required depth and pouring and reinforcing during extraction of the auger creates an augercast pile.

Retention systems (bulkheads, cofferdams and shoring walls) utilize steel, concrete and vinyl flat sheet piles. They consist of long structural sections up to five feet wide and varying lengths. A vertical interlocking system creates a continuous wall most often used to retain soil or water. The retention systems can be permanent retaining structures or temporary ones for personnel and equipment safety during construction.
